Our home for the weekend was the elegant Santa Barbara Inn (SantaBarbaraInn.com), perfectly positioned along Cabrillo Boulevard directly across from East Beach. The location alone makes it an ideal coastal retreat, but the boutique hotel offers far more than postcard-worthy ocean views. The Mediterranean-inspired property blends classic sophistication with laid-back California comfort, featuring spacious guest rooms, private balconies, a beautiful pool deck and easy walking access to both the beach (literally across the street) and downtown. Mornings here begin slowly – coffee on the balcony, salty air drifting in from the Pacific and the sound of palms rustling outside your window.
The hotel is also home to Convivo (ConvivoRestaurant.com), where we enjoyed one of the standout dining experiences of the trip. The restaurant’s coastal Italian-inspired menu feels perfectly suited to Santa Barbara’s relaxed sophistication. With a warm, inviting atmosphere and views of the ocean just steps away, dinner unfolded leisurely over beautifully prepared seasonal dishes highlighting local ingredients and fresh seafood. There’s a convivial spirit here – true to the restaurant’s name – that encourages conversation, lingering and another glass of wine long after sunset.
